This is Mandy’s story: On the “kill floor” at a poultry slaughterhouse in Central California, Mandy the Ex-Meat Chicken watched as each of her flockmates was slaughtered for food. In a shocking twist of fate, Mandy and seven other feathered friends were spared the sharp knife of death and found refuge at Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary. In the photo above, Mandy is riding home from her vet appointment this week. Her eyes tell a story of hope in the face of unbelievable odds.
